When a Person Dies

When a person dies...

It can be a very confusing time, with lots of decisions to be made, people to speak to, official documents.... And it's completely normal to find all of this tedious, almost pointless. Many people say they feel they go through the motions as though they are in a fog.

*If a person dies in a hospital, the hospital will let you know. The doctors have to sign a "green slip" to allow your chosen funeral director to collect your loved one and take them to a chapel of rest.

*If a person dies in a care home and it is expected, the doctor will sign the death certificate and your funeral diector will be able to collect your loved one.

*If a death is unexpected, the coroner has to be involved and make examinations, or a post mortem, to see how your loved one died. Once this has been done, the green slip and death certificate will be issued and the funeral director can collect your loved one.

*If a person dies in an accident or some other sudden way, the police and the coroner will let you know when the funeral director can collect your loved one.

WHEN SOMEONE DIES, ALL YOU HAVE TO DO IS CALL A LOCAL FUNERAL DIRECTOR WHO CAN HELP YOU ORGANISE EVERYTHING.

Tell them:

*The full name and home address of the deceased

*Their date of birth and date of death

*Where they died

*Any police or coroner information, if applicable

*The name and address of the next of kin

*The name, address and full contact details of the person who will be in charge of organising the funeral (this is often the next of kin, but not always)

YOU WILL NOT NEED TO MAKE ANY DECISIONS DURING THIS TELEPHONE CALL. THE FUNERAL DIRECTOR WILL MAKE AN APPOINTMENT TO DO THIS LATER, TO GIVE YOU TIME TO THINK ABOUT THINGS.

When you meet with the funeral director, they will ask about faith, beliefs, flowers, and they will chat with you about the person who has died. This is when you can decide where you would like a funeral or memorial to be held, and what kind of service or celebration you would like. And this is when you can ask them to contact SOUL RITES to help to make the occasion both special and appropriate. You can also contact us directly yourself.
