*If a person dies in a hospital, the hospital will let you know. The doctors have to sign a "green slip" to allow your chosen funeral director to collect your loved one and take them to a chapel of rest.
*If a person dies in a care home and it is expected, the doctor will sign the death certificate and your funeral diector will be able to collect your loved one.
*If a death is unexpected, the coroner has to be involved and make examinations, or a post mortem, to see how your loved one died. Once this has been done, the green slip and death certificate will be issued and the funeral director can collect your loved one.
*If a person dies in an accident or some other sudden way, the police and the coroner will let you know when the funeral director can collect your loved one.
